Types and uses of wood chippers

Wood chippers are mechanical equipment specially used to cut wood into flakes. They are widely used in wood processing, papermaking, pulping and wood-based panels. According to different working principles and structural forms, wood chippers are mainly divided into two categories: disc chippers and drum chippers.

The main structure of the disc chipper includes a knife disc, a cutting knife, a bottom knife and a casing. There are multiple cutting blades installed on the knife disc, and the length and number of the blades can be adjusted according to needs. The machine is suitable for cutting wood with a smaller diameter, and is usually used to process raw materials such as small-diameter wood, bamboo and board skin.

The drum chipper consists of a machine body, a knife roller, upper and lower feed rollers, a conveyor belt, a hydraulic system and other parts. The machine body is made of high-strength steel plates welded together and is the support base of the entire machine. Two, three or four flying knives are installed on the knife roller, and the flying knives are fixed to the knife roller through a pressure block using specially made knife bolts. According to the thickness of the cut material, the upper feed roller assembly can float up and down within a certain range with the help of the hydraulic system. The qualified flakes cut down fall through the screen holes and are discharged from the bottom, and the large flakes will be cut inside the machine.

Suitable for cutting small-diameter wood, board skin and lath with a diameter of less than 120mm. The cut wood chips can be used as raw materials for fiberboard and pulp.

Metal processing: In the metal processing industry, drum chippers can crush wood into uniform spherical particles, reduce transportation costs and improve ironmaking efficiency.
Biomass energy: Convert wood chips and other biomass materials into fuel lumps to promote the recycling of resources.
The price of drum chippers is usually higher than that of disc chippers, which is suitable for enterprises that require efficient cutting and high-quality finished products.

When choosing a wood chipper, enterprises should make comprehensive considerations based on their own production needs and raw material characteristics.

Small-scale production: If the enterprise is small and does not require high cutting quality, you can choose a disc chipper with lower investment.
Large-scale production: For large-scale production and enterprises with high cutting quality requirements, drum chippers are a more suitable choice.
